Here are some local high school varsity sports recaps from Wednesday’s events:

Varsity Ice Hockey: Cortland-Homer vs. Fayetteville-Manlius (Cortland-Homer Holiday Tournament)

The Cortland-Homer Golden Eagles defeated Fayetteville-Manlius with a score of 4-2 in the first round of the Holiday Tournament at the JM McDonald Sports Complex. 

Cortland-Homer was led by Mitch Riter (1 goal & 1 assist), Andrew Partigianoni (1 goal & 2 assists), Hunter Everle (1 goal & 1 assist), Ryan Spalding (1 goal & 1 assist), and Liam O’Connor (1 assist).

Fayetteville-Manlius was led by Connor McDonald (1 goal), Michael LaDuke (1 assist), Will Sanzone (1 goal), and Brian Tonkovich (1 assist).

Cortland-Homer will now play in the championship round of the tournament tonight (December 29th) against Cazenovia at 5pm. 

Varsity Girls Basketball: Marathon vs. Dryden (Miss Holiday Hustle Tournament)

The Marathon Lady Olympians defeated Dryden 44-39 in order to win the “Miss Holiday Hustle Tournament” final at Marathon High School Wednesday night.

Varsity Girls Basketball: Cortland vs. Whitney Point

The Cortland Lady Tigers improved to a 6-1 record after beating Whitney Point on the road with a score of 65-21. 

Cortland was led by Kendall Mack (18 points), Claire Turner (12 points), Aubree Larkin (11 points), and Valerosa Gambitta (10 points).

Whitney Point was led by Sarah Somers (8 points) and Magdelana Jordan (5 points).

Up next, Cortland will play Auburn on the road this Friday (December 30th) at 11am. 

Varsity Girls Basketball: Homer vs. Chenango Valley

The Homer Lady Trojans lost 32-53 against Chenango Valley on Wednesday. 

With this loss, Homer has fallen to an overall record of 2-6. 

Homer was led by Catherine Apker (21 points), Kaylee Darling (4 points), and Catelyn Ensign (4 points).

Varsity Girls Basketball: McGraw vs. Fabius-Pompey (Fabius-Pompey Holiday Tournament)

The McGraw girls basketball team fell to an 0-4 record after losing to Fabius-Pompey with a score of 23-48 on Wednesday. 

McGraw was led by Hannah Wilson (10 points) and Allie West (6 points). 

Fabius-Pompey was led by Carlena Wallace (19 points) and Miranda Putnam (9 points). 

McGraw was scheduled to play Cincinnatus in the consolation game of the Fabius-Pompey Holiday Tournament today (December 29th) at 2pm. A recap of the game will be available on The Cortland Voice Website tomorrow (December 30th). 

Varsity Girls Basketball: Cincinnatus vs. Poland (Fabius-Pompey Holiday Tournament)

The Cincinnatus Girls Basketball team lost 24-51 against Poland in the first round of the Holiday Tournament at Fabius-Pompey.

The Homer Trojans lost 48-56 against Tully in the first round of the Black Knight Holiday Tournament on Wednesday. 

With this loss, Homer now holds an 0-6 record overall. 

Homer was led by Wyatt Wilbur (22 points) and Mitchell Earle (10 points).

Tully was led by Daniel Mech (21 points) and Lorenzo Garafolo (13 points).

Up next, Homer will play the consolation game of the tournament against Solvay at Tully High School tonight (December 29th) at 5pm. 

Varsity Boys Basketball: Cortland vs. Lansing (Tom Neugebauer Holiday Tournament)

The Cortland Purple Tigers won the first round of the Tom Neugebauer Holiday Tournament at Cortland High School against Lansing with a close score of 40-38.

Cortland was led by Benjamin McGrath (24 points) and Emerson Johnson (9 points).

Lansing was led by Jordan Sidle (10 points) and Josh Hunter (9 points).

With this win, Cortland improved to a 3-1 record. 

Cortland will now play in the tournament finals against Moravia at Cortland High School tonight (December 29th) at 7pm.

The Cincinnatus Lions lost a tough game against Morrisville Eaton in the first round of the Fabius-Pompey Holiday Tournament on Wednesday.

Cincinnatus lost with a score of 43-59, bringing their overall record down to 0-5. 

Cincinnatus was led by Canden Stafford (26 points) and Tucker Latta (8 points).

Morrisville Eaton was led by Jesse Soden (24 points) and Evan Stewart (14 points).

Cincinnatus is scheduled to play in the consolation game of the tournament tonight (December 29th) at 5pm against Otselic Valley.
