January will come to an end with cold air and some lake effect snow showers.

The best chance for snow today will come this morning and early into the afternoon. Snow showers, and perhaps a couple of better organized squalls, will move south off Lake Ontario from time to time.

Any squalls may briefly reduce visibility and put a quick coating of snow on the road. Otherwise, the snow showers should be rather minor, and total accumulations today will be limited to around and inch or two at most.

A few flurries will remain possible later in the day and into the evening, but these will be few and far between, and minor in impact.

Winds will be around 10 mph from the northwest through the early afternoon. After that, the wind will weaken and become nearly calm.

Temperatures will struggle to get much beyond 20 degrees today, though the far southern reaches of the county should eclipse that by several degrees.

Tonight’s temperatures will depend to varying degrees on terrain, cloud cover, and snow cover. Temperatures will probably vary quite a bit from location to location, staying as high as the mid 10s or dropping as low as zero degrees. Most areas will probably end up somewhere around 10 degrees.

Here is a look at the weather for the next few days:

Wednesday: Increasing sunshine. Morning lows highly variable, but averaging out to around 10 degrees. Afternoon highs in the mid 20s.

Thursday: Clouds and some sun. Morning lows in the mid 10s. Afternoon highs in the mid 30s.

Friday: Windy with flurries and squalls. Temperatures most of the day around or under 10 degrees.

Saturday: Some morning clouds and flurries, then some afternoon sun. Morning lows between -5 and -15, depending on terrain and cloud cover. Afternoon highs around 10 degrees.
