Here are some local high school varsity sports recaps from Tuesday’s events:

Varsity Boys Basketball: McGraw vs. Cincinnatus

The McGraw Eagles defeated Cincinnatus in a county rivalry game at Cincinnatus High School with a score of 45-38 Tuesday night. 

With this result, McGraw improved to an 11-5 record, while Cincinnatus fell to 2-11. 

McGraw was led by Gaven Truman (21 points) and Nick Sutton (10 points). 

Cincinnatus was led by Tucker Latta (16 points) and Canden Stafford (11 points). 

Up next, McGraw is scheduled to play at home against DeRuyter on Friday (February 3rd) at 7pm; while Cincinnatus hits the road to face off against Hamilton on Wednesday (February 1st) at 7pm. 

Varsity Boys Basketball: Cortland vs. Auburn

The Cortland Purple Tigers lost a tough game against Auburn with a score of 27-65 Tuesday night. 

With this loss, Cortland now holds a 4-10 record. 

Cortland was led by Benjamin McGrath (7 points), Emerson Johnson (6 points), and Caden Albright (5 points). 

Auburn was led by Jason Irwin (16 points), Tony Borges (11 points), and DeSean Strachan (11 points).

Up next, Cortland will host Central Square this Friday (February 3rd) at 6:45pm. 

Varsity Boys Basketball: Homer vs. Skaneateles

The Homer Trojans improved to a 5-9 record after defeating Skaneateles with a score of 63-54. 

Homer was led by Evan Butts (31 points), Izaiah Beard (9 points), and Tyler VanEtten (8 points). 

Note: stats for Skaneateles were not made available by the time this article was written.

Homer’s next game will be played at home against Phoenix on Tuesday (February 7th) at 7pm. 

Varsity Girls Basketball: Cortland vs. Auburn

The Cortland Lady Tigers lost 44-61 against Auburn, making them fall to an overall record of 13-4. 

Cortland was led by Mallory Turner (17 points), Valerosa Gambitta (13 points), and Kendall Mack (10 points). 

Auburn was led by Leah Middleton (24 points) and Kylie Guarino (12 points). 

Cortland is now scheduled to play Central Square on the road this Thursday (February 2nd) at 6:45pm.

Varsity Girls Basketball: Marathon vs. Union Springs

The Marathon Lady Olympians lost 32-67 against Union Springs at home Tuesday evening. 

Marathon was led by Abby Ensign (14 points) and Addison Oram (7 points). 

Union Springs was led by Kailey Kalet (22 points) and Lilly Casler (10 points). 

With this loss, Marathon has fallen to an overall record of 9-7. 

Up next, Marathon will play Southern Cayuga on the road this Friday (February 3rd) at 6pm. 

Varsity Ice Hockey: Cortland-Homer vs. Auburn

The Cortland-Homer Golden Eagles won 8-2 against Auburn in order to improve to a 14-2 record. 

Cortland-Homer was led by Mitch Riter (2 goals & 1 assist), Andrew Partigianoni (5 assists), Chris Yang (2 assists), Hunter Everle (2 goals & 2 assists), Finn Thomas (1 assist), Ryan Spalding (1 goal & 1 assist), Lucas Farris (1 goal), Liam O’Connor (2 goals), and Garret Clark (15 saves). 

Auburn was led by Mac Maher (1 goal), Aiden Tomandi (1 assist), Evan Moore (1 goal), and Mason Jones (31 saves). 

Cortland-Homer will now play Christian Brothers Academy at the McDonald’s Sports Complex this upcoming Thursday (February 2nd) at 7pm. 

Varsity Boys Wrestling: Marathon vs. Waverly 

The Marathon Olympians lost against Waverly with a team score of 30-45 on Tuesday.

Cincinnatus was led by Colton Maroney (1 ace, 1 kill, 4 blocks & 2 digs), Dom Landers (3 assists, 3 blocks & 3 digs), and Caleb Baker (2 aces, 2 kills & 4 digs).

Chittenango was led by Cole Thomas (17 assists, 5 aces, 2 kills & 2 digs), Roger Mulholland (4 aces, 4 assists, 4 digs & 2 kills), and Landon Parks (8 kills, 4 aces & 2 digs).
