Cortland County High School Sports Recaps (February 7th)

Here are some local high school varsity sports recaps from Tuesday’s events:

Varsity Girls Basketball: Marathon vs. Moravia

The Marathon Lady Olympians fell to a 9-8 record after losing a tough game against Moravia with a score of 30-41 Tuesday night. 

Marathon was led by Abby Ensign (21 points), Addison Oram (6 points), and Anna Hoyt (3 points). 

Moravia was led by Chloe Hanson (11 points), Jordan Smith (7 points), and Allison Kehoe (6 points). 

Up next, Marathon will play Southern Cayuga on the road tonight (February 8th) at 6pm. 

Varsity Girls Basketball: Cortland vs. Fulton

The Cortland Lady Tigers improved to a 15-4 record after beating Fulton 64-43 at home Tuesday evening. 

Cortland was led by Valerosa Gambitta (20 points), Kendall Mack (13 points), and Claire Turner (11 points). 

Fulton was led by Kayla McCraith (14 points), Carleigh Patterson (11 points), and Laura Bartlett (9 points). 

Cortland is now scheduled to play East Syracuse Minoa at home this Friday (February 10th) at 6:45pm. 

Varsity Girls Basketball: Homer vs. Phoenix

The Homer Lady Trojans lost 41-57 against Phoenix on the road Tuesday night. 

With this loss, Homer has fallen to an overall record of 6-11. 

Homer was led by Catherine Apker (11 points) and Madison Singleton (9 points).

Phoenix was led by Alaynna Dashnau (16 points), Sara Ruetsch (14 points), and Lyla Duskee (11 points).

Homer’s next game will be played at home against Mexico on Thursday (February 9th) at 6:45pm. 

Varsity Boys Basketball: Cortland vs. Fulton

The Cortland Tigers fell to a 4-13 record after losing to Fulton with a score of 48-57. 

Cortland was led by Ben McGrath (16 points), Antonio Terrazas (9 points), and Carter Baum (8 points). 

Fulton was led by Sam Cotton (16 points), Trevor Hendrickson (14 points), and Aiden Trude (10 points). 

Up next, Cortland will play at home against Skaneateles this Thursday (February 9th) at 6:45pm.

Varsity Boys Basketball: Homer vs. Phoenix

The Homer Trojans lost 53-68 against Phoenix Tuesday night. 

Homer was led by Izaiah Beard (14 points), Evan Butts (8 points), and Mitchell Earle (7 points).

Phoenix was led by Tallen Prior (23 points), Lincoln Kersey (19 points), and Zack Henderson (11 points). 

With this loss, Homer has fallen to an overall record of 5-10. 

Homer is now scheduled to play Chittenango on the road tonight (February 8th) at 7pm. 

Varsity Boys Basketball: McGraw vs. Madison

The McGraw Eagles lost a close game against Madison with a score of 64-67 on the road Tuesday evening. 

With this loss, McGraw now holds an 11-6 record. 

McGraw was led by Gaven Truman (22 points), Nate Stiles (10 points), and Jaydon Bassett (10 points). 

Madison was led by Jacob Burns (21 points), Ethan Rivers (20 points), and Gage Saltern (8 points).

Up next, McGraw will host DeRuyter this upcoming Saturday (February 11th) at 3pm. 

Varsity Boys Basketball: Cincinnatus vs. Otselic Valley

The Cincinnatus Lions fell to an overall record of 2-13 after losing to Otselic Valley 41-49. 

Cincinnatus was led by Canden Stafford (15 points), Tucker Latta (10 points), and John Schuyler (8 points). 

Otselic Valley was led by Braden Davis (29 points) and Jacob Bunting (8 points). 

Cincinnatus is scheduled to host Brookfield for senior night on Thursday (February 9th) at 6pm. 

Varsity Boys Volleyball: Cincinnatus vs. Rome Free Academy

The Cincinnatus boys volleyball team lost in three sets against Rome Free Academy on Tuesday. 

With this loss, Cincinnatus has fallen to an 0-8 record. 

Cincinnatus was led by Colton Maroney (2 kills, 3 blocks, 4 digs & 1 ace), Dom Landers (5 assists, 8 digs, 2 blocks & 1 kill), and Eli Cree (2 kills, 5 digs & 1 block). 

Rome Free Academy was led by Lucas Yanik (3 aces, 1 kill, 6 assists & 2 digs), Sonepith Keoviengsamay II (4 aces, 6 kills & 3 digs), and Guy Deraway (4 aces, 1 kills & 3 digs). 

Cincinnatus is now scheduled to play Sauquoit Valley on the road this Thursday (February 9th) at 6:45pm.
