Cortland County High School Sports Recaps (February 10th)

Here are some local high school varsity sports recaps from Friday’s events:

Varsity Girls Volleyball: Cincinnatus vs. Manlius Pebble Hill (Sectional Quarterfinals)

The second seeded Cincinnatus Lady Lions defeated Manlius Pebble Hill (7th seed) in the quarterfinal round of the Section III Class D Sectional Tournament Friday night. 

Cincinnatus won the match in three sets. 

Cincinnatus was led by Caitlyn St. Germain (25 assists, 8 kills, 5 aces, 8 digs & 1 block), Allyson St.Germain (12 kills, 14 digs, 1 block & 1 assist), Kaedence Latta (2 aces, 8 kills & 6 digs), Cassia Schuyler (15 digs & 1 ace), and Shannon Ryan (1 ace, 3 kills & 1 dig).

The Lady Lions will now wait to see who they will be hosting in the semifinal round of the sectional tournament on Wednesday (February 15th) at 6pm. 

Cincinnatus will host the winner of the Morrisville Eaton vs. Sandy Creek match that is scheduled to be played today (February 11th) at Morrisville Eaton at 12pm (noon). 

Varsity Boys Basketball: Marathon vs. Trumansburg

The Marathon Olympians defeated Trumansburg 67-57 Friday night.

Marathon was led by Conor Holland (28 points), Zach Birdsall (11 points), and Bryce Hartman (9 points). 

Trumansburg was led by Nikolas Nelson (26 points) and Chanlton Wright (15 points). 

With this win, Marathon improved to an overall record of 7-11. 

Marathon is now scheduled to host Southern Cayuga on Monday (February 13th) at 7:15pm. 

Varsity Boys Basketball: Cortland vs. East Syracuse Minoa

The Cortland boys basketball team has fallen to an overall record of 5-14 after losing to East Syracuse Minoa with a score of 52-61. 

Cortland was led by Ben McGrath (16 points) and Carter Baum (15 points).

East Syracuse Minoa was led by Tyler Quarry (20 points), Cole Thomas (13 points), and Tristan Henderson (11 points).  

Up next, Cortland is scheduled to play Jamesville-Dewitt at home this upcoming Tuesday (February 14th) at 6:45pm. 

Varsity Girls Basketball: Homer vs. Chittenango

The Homer Lady Trojans defeated Chittenango with a score of 59-42 Friday night. 

With this win, Homer now holds a 7-12 record. 

Homer was led by Madison Singleton (18 points), Catherine Apker (13 points), and Eila Spanbauer (8 points).

Homer’s next game will be played at home against Marathon on Tuesday (February 14th) at 5pm. 

Varsity Girls Basketball: Cortland vs. East Syracuse Minoa

The Cortland Lady Tigers defeated East Syracuse Minoa with a score of 72-26 in order to improve to a 16-4 record. 

Cortland was led by Valerosa Gambitta (19 points), Mallory Turner (15 points), Kendall Mack (14 points), Claire Turner (13 points).

East Syracuse Minoa was led by Aniyah Jones (8 points), Angelina Cosentino (6 points), and Angelina Polcaro (6 points). 

This was Cortland’s last scheduled game of the regular season. 

According to Section III, there will be a seeding meeting next Wednesday (February 15th) to find out who Cortland will be playing in the sectional tournament. 

Varsity Girls Basketball: Marathon vs. Trumansburg

The Marathon Lady Olympians improved to a 10-9 record after beating Trumansburg 56-38 on the road Friday night. 

Marathon was led by Addison Oram (22 points) and Abby Ensign (19 points). 

Trumansburg was led by Lauren Millspaugh (17 points), Elizabeth Foster (5 points), and Allison Denmark (5 points).

Up next, Marathon will take on Homer on the road this upcoming Tuesday (February 14th) at 5pm.
