Local firefighters rescued an elderly woman from a house in the town of Willet, according to a post from the Cincinnatus Fire Department.

Units from the Willet, Cincinnatus and Marathon fire departments dispatched to a house fire on Route 41 in Willet around 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

According to the post, the elderly woman, still in the house, was bound to a wheelchair and unable to exit the structure.

Firefighters worked quickly and safely removed the woman from the house. The woman had minor injuries and was treated by North Area Volunteer Ambulance.

A representative from the Cincinnatus Fire Department told the Cortland Voice on Thursday that the cause of the fire was due to propane tank explosion in the house.

Firefighters were able to get the fire under control in 20 minutes, and units successfully put out the fire with minimal damage to the house. Units were on scene for about an hour.

No further injuries, damage or present individuals on scene were reported.
