The City of Cortland Common Council unanimously approved the hiring of a new director of administration and finance at its meeting on Tuesday.

Lisa M. Henty, a native of Oneida, will be Cortland’s inaugural city administrator with a starting salary of $140,000. Henty, who will begin in May, gives the city’s finance department a head position for the first time in almost a year-and-a-half.

“I am humbled and honored to be selected as the city administrator for Cortland,” Henty said in a release. “I look forward to working collaboratively with the mayor and council on the various projects and initiatives that are currently underway. I am truly excited to return home to the greater Central New York area and continue my passion for public service.”

From her beginning as a budget analyst in the Albany County Department of Management and Budget, to her recent work as the director in the Fauquier County (Virginia) Office of Management and Budget, Henty has over a decade of experience in public administration.

Henty has a bachelor’s degree in sociology and women’s studies from Colgate University, and a master’s degree in public administration and social policy from Syracuse University. She is also a member of the International City/County Association (ICMA) and the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA).

A City Administrator hiring search committee, led by chairperson Johanna Ames, spent a few months finding a candidate to fit the position. The process included over 20 applicants and multiple rounds of interviews.
