The Cortland Lady Tigers won 4-3 against the Homer Lady Trojans after a close county rivalry game at the Gutchess Lumber Sports Complex on Wednesday.

“I think that it was a great day to play ball,” said Cortland Head Coach James Hogan. “It was great seeing the kids play. I loved their intensity and their fight to stay in the game. Our pitcher threw strikes when we needed her to, our defense played great defense when they had to, and it was a great game.”

After the top of the first inning Cortland was down 0-3, but slowly rallied back in the game to take the 4-3 lead that would win them the game in the sixth inning.

Cortland was led by Brenna Hogan (1 RBI & 13 strikeouts thrown), Mallory Turner (3 runs & 1 hit), and Lauren Mott (1 run)

Homer was led by Khloe Young (1 hit), Allyson Verfuss (1 run, 1 hit & 1 RBI), Cecelia Rappleyea (1 run, 1 hit & 1 RBI), Catherine Apker (1 run & 1 hit), Jenna Henderson (2 strikeouts thrown).

“I thought we could have done a better job at the plate but Brenna Hogan is a good pitcher,” said Homer Head Coach Christine Colasurdo. “It was nice to get a few runs right in the first, but then we struggled getting runners on. Jenna (Henderson) was doing a nice job pitching, but we weren't backing her up. She only gave up two hits, but with five errors in the field, it's hard to get the win.”
