The Marathon Olympians fell to an 0-2 record after losing to Newfield 3-7 on Thursday.

Marathon was mainly led by Jacob Byron (1 run off an error) and Zachary Birdsall (2 RBI single).

Newfield was led by Jackson Nelson (1 run off an error), Joshua Donley (3RBI single), Austin Jenney (RBI single to score Andrew Brechner), Michael Woodard (RBI single to score Joshua Donley).

“This was a very well played game by both teams,” said Marathon Head Coach Bryan Hoyt. “We each gave up an unearned run in the third, and after that both teams played very well. I thought Zach Birdsall pitched a great game tonight. He had total command, gave up no hits through 4 innings and no earned runs. We had a runner at third in both the 2nd and 4th inning with one out and were unable to get them home. That’s something we need to work on, because in close games like this every run matters.”

Marathon’s next game will be played on the road against Southern Cayuga this upcoming Monday (April 10th) at 4:30pm.

Varsity Softball: Marathon vs. Groton

Melodie Sutton (2 runs, 4 hits & 1 RBI), Cassandra Forrest (3 hits & 3 RBI's), Brook Morsey (3 hits & 2 RBI’s).
