Cortland County High School Sports Recaps (April 7th)

Here are some local high school varsity sports recaps from Friday’s events:

Varsity Boys Lacrosse: Cortland vs. Binghamton

The Cortland Tigers defeated Binghamton 14-1 Friday night. 

Cortland was led by Finn Thomas (3 goals & 2 assists), Ryan Kline (5 goals & 1 assist), Benjamin McGrath (3 goals & 3 assists), Mark Darling (1 goal), Jon Henry (2 goals), and Declan Vail (6 saves). 

Binghamton was led by Camari Hall-Smith (1 goal) and Jack Segrue (8 saves).

With this win, Cortland improved their overall record to 2-1. 

Up next, Cortland is scheduled to play Oswego on the road this upcoming Tuesday (April 11th) at 7pm. 

Varsity Softball: Cortland vs. Edmeston

The Cortland Softball team beat Edmeston 7-6 in the first game of a double header Friday afternoon. 

Cortland was led by Sophie Mayer (1 run & 1 hit), Gracie-Jo Homza (1 hit), Kaitlyn Egolf (1 run & 1 hit), Lauren Mott (1 run & 2 hits), Kaedyn Murphy (1 run, 1 hit & 1 RBI), Mallory Turner (1 run & 1 hit), Aliza McCormick (2 runs, 1 Homer-run, 2 hits, 3 RBI’s & 5 strikeouts thrown), and Alexis Brown (1 RBI).

Cortland then played their next game against Oneonta. See the recap below for more information.

The Cortland Lady Tigers defeated Oneonta 8-3 in their second game of a double-header Friday afternoon. 

Cortland was led by Brenna Hogan (2 runs, 2 hits, 1 RBI & 11 strikeouts thrown), Gracie-Jo Homza (1 RBI), Lauren Mott (1 run & 1 hit), Molly Steve (1 hit), Mallory Turner (1 run & 1 hit), Aliza McCormick (2 runs, 2 hits & 2 RBI’s), and Madalyn Thompson (2 runs, 2 hits & 1 hit). 

Note: Individual stats for Oneonta were not available by the time this article was written. 

With these results, Cortland improved their overall record to 3-0. 

According to Cortland’s calendar, the Lady Tigers’ next game will be played at the Gutchess Lumber Sports Complex against Osweho on Monday (April 11th) at 5pm.
