Cortland County High School Sports Recaps (April 11th)

Here are some local high school varsity sports recaps from Tuesday’s events:

Varsity Softball: McGraw vs. Cincinnatus

The Cincinnatus Lady Lions beat McGraw in a county rivalry game at Cincinnatus High School Tuesday afternoon with a score of 22-7. 

This was the first game of the regular season for both teams. 

Cincinnatus was led by Jarisa Temple (2 runs & 2 hits), Gabby Taylor (2 runs & 3 hits), Kayle Brenchley (4 runs, 3 hits & 10 strikeouts thrown), Jaydn Lang (3 runs), Piper Landers (1 hit), Mandi Waltz (1 run & 1 hit), Lucy Finch (4 runs & 4 hits), Payton Gerrard (3 runs & 2 hits), and Madison Stover (3 runs & 3 hits).

McGraw was led by Haylee Bassett (2 homeruns & 4 RBI’s), Leah Terwilliger (1 hit & 1 RBI), Josslyn Eaton (2 runs, 1 RBI & 6 strikeouts thrown), Hannah Wilson (1 run & 1 hit), Camdyn Caperton (2 hits & 2 RBI’s), and Katelynn Millard (1 run & 1 RBI).

Up next, Cincinnatus is scheduled to host DeRuyter this Friday (April 14th) at 4:30pm; while McGraw goes on the road to play this Thursday (April 13th) at 4:30pm against Moravia.  

Varsity Softball: Homer vs. Christian Brothers Academy (CBA)

The Homer Lady Trojans lost 2-6 against Christian Brothers Academy Tuesday afternoon. 

With this loss, Homer now holds a 1-2 overall record. 

Homer’s only runs were scored by Cecelia Rappleyea (1 run) and Catherine Apker (1 run & 1 hit).

CBA was led by Allison Boule (1 run, 2 hits & 2 RBI’s), Madisyn Crysler (1 run & 1 hit), Gracie Battles (1 hit & 3 RBI’s), Aubrey Vincentini (1 run & 1 hit), Giana Anderson (1 run & 1 hit), Avery Bowman (1 hit), Hannah Reilly (1 run, 2 hits & 1 RBI), Juliette Zimmerman (3 hits), and Erin Nardella (1 run).

Homer is scheduled to play on the road against Westhill this Thursday (April 13th) at 4:30pm.

The Cortland Lady Tigers won 7-2 against Oswego at the Gutchess Lumber Sports Complex Tuesday evening. 

Cortland was led by Claire Turner (1 RBI), Sophie Mayer (2 hits & 1 RBI), Andrea West (1 RBI), Lauren Mott (2 runs, 1 hit & 1 RBI), Molly Steve (1 hit), Kaedyn Murphy (3 runs, 2 hits & 1 RBI), Mallory Turner (1 run), Aliza McCormick (1 run), and Brenna Hogan (8 strikeouts thrown).   

Oswego was led by Maria Sweet (1 hit & 1 RBI), Malia Upcraft (1 run & 2 hits), Clara O'Connor (1 run & 1 hit), Kamryn Bletch (1 hit & 1 RBI), and Maria Sweet (12 strikeouts thrown). 

Cortland’s next game will be played on the road against East Syracuse Minoa on Thursday (April 13th) at 5pm. 

Varsity Baseball: Homer vs. Christian Brothers Academy (CBA)

The Homer Trojans lost a tough game with a score of 1-12 against Christian Brothers Academy (CBA) Tuesday evening. 

Homer was led by Graydon Hickey (1 run), Tristan Allen (1 hit), Anderson Read (1 RBI), Maddox Johnson (2 strikeouts thrown), and Anderson Read (1 strikeout thrown).

CBA was led by Michael Giamartino (1 run & 1 RBI), Cooper Marko (1 run & 1 RBI), Ryan Petrie (1 hit & 1 RBI), Mike Menar (1 RBI), Gerald Vielhauer (1 run, 1 hit & 1 RBI), Hector Gonzalez (1 run), Luke Becker (1 run & 1 hit), Luke Boule (2 runs), Zach Mulhern (1 run & 1 RBI), Ethan Harris (1 run, 2 hits & 2 RBI’s), Will Harrigan (2 runs), Jack Landau (1 run, 1 hit & 1 RBI), and Casey Vaughn (7 strikeouts thrown).

With this loss, Homer fell to a 1-2 overall record.

Varsity Boys Lacrosse: Cortland vs. Oswego

The Cortland Tigers improved to a 3-1 overall record after defeating Oswego on the road with a score of 12-2. 

Cortland was led by Benjamin McGrath (4 goals & 1 assist), Ryan Kline (4 goals), Bodey McGrath (2 goals), Jon Henry (2 goals), Finn Thomas (1 goal), and Declan Vail (8 saves).

Oswego was led by Logan Crannell (2 goals), Tanner Defren (1 assist), and Mac Fitzgerald (12 saves).

Cortland’s next game is scheduled to be played at home this Thursday (April 13th) against Syracuse City at 6:30pm. 

Varsity Boys Lacrosse: Homer vs. Tully

The Homer Trojans won 17-2 against Tully Tuesday evening. With this win, Homer now holds an overall record of 2-2.

The Cortland Lady Tigers fell to an 0-2 record after losing 6-15 against Oswego Tuesday night. 

Cortland was led by Valerosa Gambitta (4 goals), Olivia Magin (1 goal & 1 assist), Aubree Larkin (1 goal), Sophia Souzas (1 assist), and Hayden Bulger (13 saves). 

Oswego was led by Aliana DiBlasi (6 goals & 1 assist), Mia Fierro (4 goals & 2 assists), Amanda Connelly (2 goals & 1 assist), Peyton Bond (1 goal & 5 assists), Cora Shiel (1 goal), Elizabeth Furlong (1 goal), Makensie Sinclair (3 saves), and Allyson Bruns (4 saves).

Cortland is now scheduled to play Cazenovia at home on Thursday (April 13th) at 4:30pm. 

Varsity Boys Golf: Marathon vs. Moravia

The Marathon Olympians played their first match of the season against Moravia Tuesday afternoon. Marathon lost the match with an overall team score of 202-192. (Reminder: the lowest score in golf wins).
