Here are some local high school varsity sports recaps from Friday’s events:

Varsity Baseball: McGraw vs. Stockbridge Valley

The McGraw Eagles defeated Stockbridge Valley with a score of 3-0 at the Gutchess Lumber Sports Complex Friday evening. 

With this win, McGraw improved to an overall record of 3-1. 

McGraw was led by Blair Mulcahy (3 hits & 1 RBI), Calob Sutton (1 run), Nate Stiles (1 run), and Jaydon Bassett (1 run & 5 strikeouts thrown). 

Note: individual stats for Stockbridge Valley were not made available by the time this article was written. 

McGraw is now scheduled to play Marathon for a county rivalry game at Marathon High School on Monday (April 17th) at 4:30pm.

The Cortland Tigers improved their unbeaten record to 6-0 after winning on the road against Central Square with a score of 9-2. 

Cortland was led by Christopher Yang (1 run, 2 hits & 1 RBI), Antonio Terrazas (1 run & 2 strikeouts thrown), Danny Jackson (1 run & 1 hit), Caden Albright (2 runs, 1 Homerun, 2 hits & 4 RBI’s), Liam Woodward (1 run, 1 RBI & strikeouts thrown), Andrew Partigianoni (2 runs, 3 hits & 2 RBI’s), Ethan Johnson (1 RBI), and Tyler Gilbert (1 run).

Central Square was led by Trevor Boyce (1 run), Michael Baker (1 hit & 1 RBI), Dante Coppola (1 hit), Nathan Weed (1 run), Kyle Brown (1 hit), Jack Hite (1 hit), Anthony Miga (4 strikeouts thrown), and Dominick Ciccone (1 strikeout thrown). 

Up next, Cortland is scheduled to host Oswego at the Gutchess Lumber Sports Complex on Monday (April 17th) at 5pm.

The McGraw Lady Eagles lost 2-21 against Stockbridge Valley on Friday. With this loss, McGraw has fallen to an overall record of 1-2. 

McGraw was led by Adrianna Stacconi (1 hit), Haylee Bassett (1 run), Leah Terwilliger (1 run), and Madison Sweeney (1 RBI).

Varsity Softball: Homer vs. Mexico

The Homer Trojans lost a close game against Mexico with a score of 5-6 Friday afternoon. 

Homer was led by Allyson Verfuss (1 run), Catherine Apker (1 run), Jenna Henderson (1 run, 1 hit & 6 strikeouts thrown), Karigan Quaile (1 run & 1 hit), and Cecelia Rappleyea (1 run & 3 hits).

Mexico was led by Kylee Urquhart (2 runs & 2 hits), Brooke Marks (1 run & 1 hit), Olivia Killam (1 hit), Hailey Comstock (1 run, 3 hits & 14 strikeouts thrown), and Emillie Stanard (2 runs).

With this loss, Homer holds a 1-4 record.

Up next, Homer will host Hannibal on Thursday (April 20th) at Homer High School at 5pm. 

Varsity Softball: Cincinnatus vs. DeRuyter

The Cincinnatus Lady Lions improved to a 2-0 record after defeating DeRuyter with a score of 5-3. 

Cincinnatus was led by Jarisa Temple (1 hit), ​​Maddison Streichert (1 run & 1 hit), Kayle Brenchley (1 run & 1 hit), Piper Landers (1 hit), Mandi Waltz (1 hit), Payton Gerrard (2 runs, 2 hits & 8 strikeouts thrown), and Madison Stover (1 run, 1 hit & 2 RBI’s).

DeRuyter was led by Olivia Lidell (1 run & 1 hit), Rhya Richardson (1 run), Amaya Rounsaville (2 hits), and Kelsey Brown (1 run & 1 hit). 

Cincinnatus is now scheduled to play Madison on the road this upcoming Monday (April 17th) at 4:30pm. 

Varsity Girls Lacrosse: Cortland vs. Jamesville-Dewitt

The Cortland Lady Tigers lost a tough game against Jamesville-Dewitt with a score of 3-17. 

Cortland was led by Aubree Larkin (2 goals & 1 assist), Gabrielle Cranfield (1 goal & 1 assist), and Hayden Bulger (2 saves). 

Jamesville-Dewitt was led by Merris Kessler (2 goals), Brooke Bort (1 assist), Caroline Stone (2 goals & 3 assists), Sadie Withers (4 goals), Laney Bort (1 assist), Ava Mone (4 goals & 1 assist), Alexis Scaramuzzino (3 goals), Margaret Bliss (2 goals & 1 assist), and Lucy Keib (3 saves). 

With this result, Cortland has fallen to an overall record of 0-4. 

Cortland’s next game will be played at home against Syracuse City on Tuesday (April 18th) at 6:45pm.
