Truxton family loses home to fire

Local units put out a house fire in the town of Truxton over the weekend, according to a release.

A representative from the Truxton Fire Department noted in the release that units responded to a home on Morgan Hill Road in Truxton.

The report stated that the family living in the house was not home at the time of the fire. The family, which consists of two adults and four children (including a 4-month old baby), were assisted by the American Red Cross.

Units put out a bulk of the fire in an hour. However, firefighters spent six hours “chasing hot spots,” the release noted.

According to the release, the roof collapsed onto the second floor, which collapsed onto the first floor. Multiple hot spots were in these areas, the release stated.

Units were on scene for a total of seven hours, the release stated. The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.

The Truxton Fire Department was assisted by the Homer, Cortlandville, Fabius, Apulia, Tully, McGraw and Preble Fire Departments; and Smith Ambulance and the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office.
