Here are some local high school varsity sports recaps from Tuesday’s events:

Varsity Baseball: McGraw vs. Madison (Double-Header)

The McGraw baseball team played a double-header against Madison Tuesday afternoon. 

Here are the results from each game of the double-header:

McGraw lost the first game of the double-header with a score of 7-9. 

The Eagles were led on game #1 of the double-header by Jaydon Bassett (1 RBI), Blake Bergey (1 run & 1 hit), Thomas Lea (1 hit), Blair Mulcahy (1 hit & 2 strikeouts thrown), Ryan Parks (1 run), Nate Stiles (1 run, 2 hits, 1 RBI & 4 strikeouts thrown), Calob Sutton (2 runs), Nick Sutton (1 run), Riley VanLiew (1 run, 1 hit & 2 RBI’s), and Brennan Wilson (2 hits & 2 RBI’s).

The Eagles lost the second game of the double-header with a score of 7-10.

With these two losses, McGraw has fallen to a 5-4 record. 

McGraw’s next game is scheduled to be played against Groton at the Gutchess Lumber Sports Complex today (Wednesday, April 26th) at 4:30pm.

The Cortland Purple Tigers lost 2-7 against Jamesville-Dewitt Tuesday evening on the road. 

This was Cortland’s second straight loss against Jamesville-Dewitt in two days, bringing their record down to 8-2. 

Cortland was led by Christopher Yang (1 hit & 1 RBI), Zach Muir (1 run), Evan Shank (1 run & 1 hit), Andrew Partigianoni (1 hit), Robbie Atkins (1 hit & 1 RBI), Ethan Johnson (3 strikeouts thrown), and Owen Johnson (3 strikeouts thrown). 

Jamesville-Dewitt was led by Aidan McGuire (1 hit & 1 RBI), Eamon Giblin (1 run, 1 hit & 1 RBI), AJ Sumida (1 run & 1 hit), Nasir Williams (1 run), Ryan Walker (1 hit & 2 RBI’s), Dante Santos (1 run), Aaron Ko (1 hit & 1 RBI), Jake Ogata (1 RBI & 1 strikeout thrown), Tyler Kaelin (2 runs & 1 hit), Luke VanMarter (1 run & 1 hit).

Up next, Cortland will look to bounce back as they take on Camden at the Gutchess Lumber Sports Complex this Saturday (April 29th) at 11am. 

Varsity Baseball: Marathon vs. Newark Valley

The Marathon Olympians fell to a 1-9 record after losing to Newark Valley 3-13 on the road. 

Marathon was led by Jacob Byron (1 run & 6 strikeouts thrown), Blake Birdsall (1 run, 2 hits & 2 RBI’s), Tristin Byron (2 hits & 1 RBI), Braydin Drake (1 hit), and Eli Hoyt (1 run). 

Newark Valley was mainly led by Will Craparo (2 runs, 2 hits, 2 RBI’s & 2 strikeouts thrown), Gabe Merrill (1 hit & 3 RBI’s), and Derek Rhodes (1 run, 2 hits & 1 RBI).

Marathon is now scheduled to host Tioga Senior at Marathon high school on Thursday (April 27th) at 5pm. 

Varsity Softball: Cortland vs. Fulton

The Cortland Lady Purple Tigers won a close game against Fulton with a score of 2-1. With the win, Cortland improved their overall record to 8-2.

Varsity Softball: Homer vs. Skaneateles

The Homer Lady Trojans outperformed Skaneateles to win with a score of 24-12 on the road Tuesday afternoon. With this win, Homer improved to an overall record of 3-5. 

According to Homer head coach Christine Colasurdo, Homer’s top hitters of the day were Melina Hage (2 runs, 3 hits & 3 RBI’s), Cece Rappleyea (5 runs, 2 hits & 2 RBI’s), Alex Kellaway (2 runs, 2 hits & 3 RBI’s), and Catherine Apker (2 runs, 2 hits & 2 RBI’s). 

Skaneateles’ top hitters were Ellie Walsh (2 runs, 3 hits & 1 RBI), and Ayla Pas'cal (1 homerun, 1 hit, & 4 RBI’s).

Up next, Homer will Phoenix on the road this Thursday (April 27th) at 4:30pm. 

Varsity Boys Lacrosse: Cortland vs. Auburn

The Cortland Purple Tigers lost 5-17 against Auburn, bringing their record down to 4-6 Tuesday night. 

Cortland was led by Ben McGrath (1 goal & 2 assists), Bodey McGrath (1 goal & 1 assist), Ryan Kline (3 goals), and Declan Vail (11 saves). 

Auburn was led by Luke Mizro (3 goals & 1 assist), Aidan Musso (4 goals & 2 assists), Charlie Cunningham (2 goals & 1 assist), Matthew Smith (2 goals & 3 assists), Nick Conley (2 goals), Jack Pineau (1 goal), Elijah Scott (2 goals), Rocco Vilanno (1 goal & 1 assist), Jack Rivoli (3 saves), and Kyle Driscoll (1 save). 

Cortland will look to bounce back on Thursday (April 27th) as they host Fulton at Cortland high school at 7pm. 

Varsity Boys Lacrosse: Homer vs. Jordan-Elbridge

The Homer Trojans improved to a 3-6 record after beating Jordan Elbridge at home Tuesday night. Homer won the game with a score of 12-3. 

Homer was led by Reid Partis (3 goals & 1 assist), Daniel Stiles (2 goals & 1 assist), Sam Sorenson (2 goals), Mitchell Riter (1 goal & 2 assists), Evan Butts (1 goal & 1 assist), Alexander Votra (1 goal), Wyatt Wilbur (1 goal), Michael Stiles (1 goal), and Benjamin Bradshaw (10 saves). 

Jordan Elbridge was led by Nixon Karcz (2 goals), Wyatt Werth (1 goal & 1 assist), and Austin Brunelle (16 saves). 

Up next, Homer will take on Marcellus on the road this Thursday (April 27th) at 7pm. 

Varsity Girls Lacrosse: Cortland vs. Auburn

The Cortland Lady Purple Tigers fell to an overall record of 2-6 after losing to Auburn at home with a score of 5-25. 

Cortland was led by Valerosa Gambitta (3 goals & 1 assist), Francesca Smith (1 goal), Gabrielle Cranfield (1 goal & 1 assist), Olivia Magin (1 assist), Hayden Bulger (6 saves), and Elizabeth Slavick (2 saves). 

Auburn was led by Natalie Long (5 goals & 1 assist), Danielle Swietoniowski (5 goals & 1 assist), Olivia Leader (4 goals & 3 assists), Caroline Smith (4 goals & 1 assist), Mary Gasper (2 goals & 1 assist), Adalyn Bouley (1 goal & 2 assists), Grace Breeze (1 assist), and Berkley Brown (2 saves). 

Cortland’s next game will be played at home against New Hartford on Saturday (April 29th) at 10am. 

Varsity Girls Lacrosse: Homer vs. Jordan-Elbridge

The Homer Lady Trojans won a close game against Jordan-Elbridge with a score of 9-6 Tuesday evening. With this win, Homer improved to a 2-5 record. 

Homer’s goals were scored by Ella Spanbauer (3 goals), Maria Partis (2 goals), Lilly Sorenson (1 goal), Caitlin McCloy (1 goal), Lauren Oustad (1 goal), and Lauren Franco (1 goal). 

Jordan-Elbridge’s goals were scored by Riley Crawford (2 goals), Kelsey Brunelle (2 goals), Makayla Penird (1 goal), and Brenna Tubbert (1 goal). 

Homer goalie Aislynn Cobb made 7 saves in the game, while Ryleigh Gill made 9 saves for Jordan-Elbridge. 

Up next, Homer will host Marcellus at Homer High School on Thursday (April 27th) at 7pm. 

Varsity Boys Golf: Marathon vs. Whitney Point

The Marathon Olympians won against Whitney Point Tuesday afternoon, as Whitney Point did not have enough players for a team score. 

Marathon recorded a team score of 182.
