A local alumnus will look to defend his bantamweight title this weekend.

Aljamain Sterling, alumnus of SUNY Cortland, will headline UFC 288 this Saturday at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.

Sterling (Jamaica) will face off against Henry Cejudo (United States) in the bantamweight title bout. A full breakdown of the main card for UFC 288 can be seen here.

The last time Sterling fought was in UFC 280 last October, when he won by total knockout (TKO) over T.J. Dillashaw. Successfully defending his bantamweight belt, he improved his career record to 22-3.

Sterling, victorious in his last eight UFC matchups, has not lost since December 2017 against Marlon Moraes (knockout by knee).

Cejudo goes into Saturday’s main event against Sterling with a 16-2 mark. He has won six-straight matchups, including against Dillashaw in 2019 to defend his flyweight title.

Sterling’s fight against Cejudo on Saturday will be televised on ESPN-plus through pay-per-view. The main card begins at 10 p.m.
