A UFC competitor with local ties came away with a big finish once again.

On Saturday at UFC 288 at the Prudential Center in New Jersey, SUNY Cortland alumnus Aljamain Sterling defeated Henry Cejudo by a split decision to defend his bantamweight title. Sterling also broke the UFC bantamweight record for title defenses (3).

Sterling’s career record improves to 23-3, which includes an 11-2 mark by decision.

Details on Sterling’s next fight have yet to be determined.
