The Marathon town board unanimously approved its first local law of 2023, along with appointing a new code enforcement officer.

The first adopted local law of the year involves the town updating uniform building and fire code. The law will cover the fire, life and structural aspects of all buildings and related structures. Updates to the town’s code will be in compliance with the New York State Uniform Fire Prevention and Building Code.

The town board appointed Jordan Betts as the area’s new code enforcement officer. Betts also handles code enforcement in the town of Ithaca.

Betts will begin his position immediately with the town of Marathon. It was noted that Betts’ contract with the town will run until the end of the year. The town will review Betts’ before the calendar turns over to 2024.
