County Sheriff’s Office announces new K-9 team

The Cortland County Sheriff’s Office recently announced a new K-9 team that’s now part of the department.

The new K-9 team is officer Dalton Strickland and Dex. According to a Facebook post from the county sheriff’s office, Dex is a one-year old Belgian Malinois imported from The Czech Republic.

Officer Strickland and Dex recently completed a 300-hour K-9 training course at Shallow Creek Kennels in Sharpsville, Pennsylvania.

The county’s new K-9 team has been certified by New York State and the North American Police Work Dog Association in tracking, article search, narcotics detection, apprehension and handler protection.
