Cortland Varsity Track & Field: SCAC Empire Championships (Results & Photos Included)

The Cortland Purple Tigers competed in the SCAC Empire Championships 2023 at Central Square high school Thursday afternoon.

A total of 8 teams (Cortland, Central Square, Jamesville-Dewitt, East Syracuse-Minoa, Auburn, Oswego, Fowler and Fulton) competed at yesterday’s meet.

The Cortland boys’ team placed 6th overall, while the Cortland girls’ team ended up placing 7th overall.

Here are some Cortland boys’ and girls’ team highlights from Thursday’s meet:

Cortland Boys

  • Duncan Harbin came in 2nd place in the shot put event (Result - 43’7.50”). He also placed 4th in the discus throw (Result - 121’2”)
  • Bryan Honan got 2nd place in the discus throw (Result - 128’10”). He also placed 4th in the shot put event (Result - 42’1”)
  • Jack Phelan finished 2nd in the triple jump event (Result - 41’8.50”)
  • Brady Pennock finished 3rd in the 1,600 meter run (Time - 4:45.60)
  • Spenser Dodds came in 3rd place in the 800 meter run (Time - 2:05.28)
  • Cortland’s 4x400 meter relay team (Spenser Dodds, Brady Pennock, Feodor Kalytyuk & Austin Lind) finished in 6th place with an overall time of 3:49.52 
  • Iniko Abani tied for 6th place in the high jump event (Result - 5’2”)

Cortland Girls

  • Rileigh Madden placed 3rd in the pole vault event (Result - 8’0”)
  • Campbell Bush came in 4th place in the 100 meter hurdles (Time - 17.27)
  • Cortland’s 4x100 meter relay team (Campbell Bush, Ashley Merritt, Morgann Doane & Bailey Dintino) finished in 4th place with an overall time of 53.21 
  • Morgann Doane came in 5th in the triple jump (Result - 31’10”)
  • Ashley Merritt tied for 6th place in the pole vault event (Result - 7’0”)

This was Cortland’s last scheduled meet of the season before the Sectional Championships, which are scheduled to take place at Camden high school on Thursday (May 25th) at 4pm.
