A decision has been made on this year’s Cortland County Dairy Parade.

According to a Facebook post from the Cortland County Dairy Promotion, the parade has been canceled for good and will not be rescheduled this year.

Tuesday’s County Dairy Parade was canceled due to the unhealthy air quality levels from the ongoing Canadian wildfires in Quebec and Nova Scotia, causing smog and the smell of burning wood to spread south of Canada.

“We appreciate each and every one of the groups, organizations, and businesses that were signed up to participate in the 2023 Cortland County Dairy Parade,” noted in the post. “We know how hard you have worked to make (Tuesday) happen and we want you to know that without you, this day wouldn’t go on year after year. We send heartfelt thoughts to each of you tonight.

The County Dairy Promotion noted in its post that the next County Dairy Parade is slated for June 4, 2024.

“From the bottom of our hearts we want to send so much love to the Cortland County communities who come and enjoy the parade each year,” noted in the post. “This tradition is one that brings us so much pride and your attendance and love of dairy makes us so happy.”
