Cortland County decided to let its emergency order expire, according to a release on Friday from county legislative chair Kevin Fitch.

The emergency order, which began on May 12, prohibited county hotels, motels, owners of multi-family dwellings or owners of real property from accepting undocumented immigrants that may seek entry into the county.

The county’s emergency order officially expired on Sunday.

The county’s decision to let its emergency order expire came after New York City filed a lawsuit against 30 New York state counties, including Cortland County, for their attempts to keep international migrants out of their respective jurisdictions.

Details on NYC’s lawsuit, which was filed on June 7 to state court, is here.

The emergency order issued by the county was implemented after the federal government’s Title 42 expired on May 11. Details on the expired Title 42 are here.
