Water main installation continues along the west side of Main Street heading north, as construction continues in the city of Cortland.

Projects on Main Street is the city’s continuation of its Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI) construction work. Cortland started working on projects last year.

Installation was scheduled to continue on Monday, but was postponed due to rain. It continued on Tuesday and, as of right now, will go through Wednesday.

Construction will include connecting new water mains to the existing infrastructure on North Main Street. Due to this work, lanes will be closed on Main Street, Groton Avenue, Clinton Avenue and North Main Street through Wednesday.

Traffic delays are expected, and commuters are urged to use alternate routes to detour around the construction work. Parking on the east and west sides of Main Street between Groton Avenue and Orchard Street will be impacted.

Those living, working or visiting the Cortland downtown area are encouraged to use off-street parking available in city-owned parking lots.

Other construction crews will continue installing new water services along the east side of Main Street between Court Street and Port Watson Street. This will create limited access to some businesses, as well as parking restrictions.
