A slow moving cold front will go through the area today, keeping the risk of thunderstorms and heavy downpours at play.

A few lingering showers behind a widespread area of rain overnight may still dot the area through the mid-morning hours. For the most part, though, it will be dry from sunrise into the early afternoon.

By the mid-afternoon, scattered showers and thunderstorms will develop and coalesce into small clusters.

The storms may be slow moving, which will result in a risk for heavy downpours and localized flooding. A few strong thunderstorm wind gusts will also be possible.

In a worst-case scenario, a given location may experience multiple or a prolonged downpour, resulting in several inches of rain. This would have the potential to produce more significant flooding. Most areas should not see this unfold, though.

Temperatures will be a bit cooler than yesterday, but the humidity will remain very high. Look for high temperatures around or just over 80 degrees with soupy dewpoints around 70 degrees.

Winds will go from the southeast this morning to the south by midday. A further shift to the west will occur during the afternoon, with winds ending up from the northwest late in the day.

After all of that, the wind will go mostly calm this evening before picking back up from the southwest overnight. None of the wind will be strong, with speeds generally at or below 5 mph.

The nighttime hours will be quiet as the front clears the area. Humidity levels will drop and temperatures will settle in the low 60s overnight.

One final thing to note will be an increase in wildfire smoke behind the front as a plume from western Canada makes its way into our region. Air quality is uncertain but may start to decline into Monday.

Here is a look at the weather for the next few days:

Monday: Partly cloudy with wildfire smoke. Maybe a late shower. Morning lows in the low 60s. Afternoon highs in the mid 80s.

Tuesday: More clouds than sun. Showers and storms possible. Morning lows in the low 60s. Afternoon highs in the upper 70s.

Wednesday: Partly cloudy. Morning lows in the mid 50s. Afternoon highs in the upper 70s.

Thursday: Sun and clouds with a few late showers and storms. Morning lows in the upper 50s. Afternoon highs near 80.
