Community members engaged at a public hearing at Tuesday’s City of Cortland Common Council meeting to express concern for a proposed project at a former school building.

A handful of Cortland residents mainly spoke out against the proposed project by the Ithaca Neighborhood Housing Services (INHS).

INHS, who is “dedicated to expanding housing opportunities for low and moderate-income residents” of Cayuga, Chemung, Cortland, Schuyler, Seneca, Tioga, and Tompkins Counties – conducted a presentation in June on potentially turning the former school building into quality housing for modest income workers. Housing would also be provided for people with intellectual, developmental and mobility needs.

Further details on INHS’s project proposal is here. The process of the former Parker School Building – from when the Cortland Enlarged City School District sold the building to the city to now – can be viewed by clicking here.
