Guthrie Cortland Medical Center recently announced the starting date of the 3-phase construction of the Alvena Avenue parking lot, according to a release.

Guthrie will break ground on phase one of the project this upcoming Monday (July 24). Construction crews will be on-site on Monday through Thursday each week from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Pending weather delays, the project is anticipated to last 16 weeks.

The release stated that once the project is complete it will “provide better parking for individuals with limited mobility, a safer, cleaner experience for patients, visitors and Guthrie caregivers, and a more aesthetically pleasing look for neighbors.”

According to the release, phase one will consist of the following:

Work includes the portion of the parking lot directly across from the nursing and rehabilitation center and extending to Evergreen Street. Parking will not be available in this area. Visitors and patients will still have access to a portion of the current parking lot. Guthrie caregiver parking will be moved to alternate locations.

The release noted that the phase one section will reopen to visitors and patients in late September. The remaining portion of the lot, the release stated, will be closed for phase two.

During phase two, Alvena Avenue will be permanently closed off at the end nearest the emergency department. Access to Alvena Avenue is only available from Homer Avenue.

Phase three of the project, which includes the loop at the hospital’s front entrance, will begin as phase two wraps up. Further details remain to be seen.
