A woman was arrested on Tuesday after she allegedly switched barcodes on merchandise at a local store, according to a Cortland County Sheriff’s Office report.

The report stated that Nina Hopkins, 37, of Cortland, allegedly “switched pricing barcodes on some merchandise to a barcode of lesser value” at the Walmart store in the town of Cortlandville.

Hopkins’ alleged switching of barcodes led to “false entries” in Walmart’s system, the report noted. According to the report, Hopkins also allegedly stole several items “without rendering payment.”

The report noted that Hopkins left the store on foot, but officers found her in close vicinity. She was charged with first-degree falsifying business records (a Class-E Felony) and petit larceny (a Class-A Misdemeanor).

Hopkins was processed, arraigned and sent to Cortland County Jail without bail. She is due to appear in Cortlandville town court at noon Friday.
