Two male juveniles were recently arrested after fleeing from troopers and reported thefts in multiple counties, according to a New York State Police report.

The state police report noted that on July 18, troopers dispatched to a reported burglary at a gas station on Webb Road in the town of Cortlandville.

According to the report, Troopers observed a Kia that was reported stolen in Syracuse a few hours earlier. A trooper attempted to make a traffic stop, but the driver of the Kia “failed to comply,” the report noted.

The report continued by saying troopers pursued the vehicle through Tompkins, Cortland and Onondaga counties. Authorities deployed tire-deflation devices in multiple locations, but the report noted that the vehicle continued to travel on flat tires and rims.

The vehicle stopped on Interstate-81 in the town of LaFayette. The two male juveniles, a 16-year old and the other at 15 years of age, fled on foot into a wooded area but were quickly taken into custody, the report stated

State police’s further investigation revealed that the stolen vehicle was filled with stolen items – including tobacco products, marijuana, clothes and sneakers, the report noted

State police did not provide names of the juveniles, but noted both were from Syracuse.

The 16-year old was charged with third-degree criminal possession of stolen property (a Class-D Felony) and unlawfully fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle. He was released to a parent.

The 15-year old was charged with third-degree criminal possession of stolen property (a Class-D Felony). He was arraigned, released and issued a family court appearance ticket.
