City Police: Individual ‘removed and unscrewed’ cable rails at community pool

An individual was arrested last week after he “removed and unscrewed” numerous vertical cable rails from a railing at a community pool, according to a City of Cortland Police report.

The report stated that Alec J. Phillips, 18, was reported to the police on Thursday by a lifeguard at Wickwire pool.

According to the report, Phillips took the vertical cable rails and threw them around the park and threw the hardware into the pool area.

The report noted Cortland Youth Bureau stated that the cable rails were valued at $50 apiece. According to the report, there were 15 cable rails missing.

When officers responded to the complaint, Phillips was still in the park. He was charged with petit larceny (a Class-A Misdemeanor) and criminal tampering (a Class-B Misdemeanor).

Phillips was issued appearance tickets for city court at a later date. He was also issued a trespass notice that barred him from the park for two years.
