City Police: Man charged with robbery following domestic dispute

A man was arrested earlier this week following a domestic dispute on Rickard Street in Cortland, according to a report.

The City of Cortland Police Department report stated that Alexander G. Donenko, 26, was involved in a domestic incident with a relative.

According to the report, Donenko smashed property in an apartment in the city. The report continued by saying Donenko stole a vehicle and threatened to kill his relative unless they withdrew money out of an ATM for Donenko.

The report noted that Donenko got the money and left the area in a stolen vehicle. Donenko was located by officers in the stolen vehicle at the Byrne Dairy store on Port Watson Street, the report stated.

Donenko was charged with third-degree robbery (a Class-D Felony), fourth-degree grand larceny (a Class-E Felony) and fourth-degree criminal mischief (a Class-A Misdemeanor). 

Donenko was arraigned in city court and sent to Cortland County Jail on a $1,000 bail and a $5,000 bond. He is due to appear in city court on Friday (Aug. 4).
