A Cortland County man with a warrant for his arrest fled from police, according to a report.

The Cortland County Sheriff’s Office report stated that officers responded to a larceny complaint at the Walmart store in the town of Cortlandville. During the investigation, officers observed a man who was not involved in the incident.

According to the report, Benjamin C. Truitt, 28, of the village of Marathon, provided false identification to officers then proceeded to flee on foot.

Following a brief pursuit, officers arrested Truitt and found him in possession of a “small amount of narcotics,” the report noted.

Truitt was charged with resisting arrest, false personation, second-degree obstructing governmental administration, and two counts of seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.

Truitt was processed, arraigned and released on an appearance ticket. He is due to appear in Cortlandville town court on Sept. 11.
