Harassment, trespass, an accident and more in county sheriff’s blotter

A handful of arrests were recently reported by the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office.

These arrests include trespassing, harassment, driving while intoxicated and more charges.

Samuel J. Swan and Adrianne Wagoner

Swan, 47, and Wagoner, both of the town of Virgil, were arrested on Saturday (Aug. 26).

The county sheriff’s office report stated that Swan and Wagoner stole merchandise from the Family Dollar store in the town of Cortlandville. When both were arrested, a “small amount of narcotics” were found in their possession, the report noted.

Swan and Wagoner were both charged with petit larceny, criminal possession of a controlled substance and sixth-degree conspiracy (all misdemeanors). Both were processed, released and now due for arraignment in Cortlandville town court on Sept. 11

Before his arrest on Saturday (Aug. 26), Swan was also arrested on Friday (Aug. 25).

According to a report, Swan trespassed on the Walmart store property in the town of Cortlandville on Aug. 4. The report added that Swan was banned from the premises in August 2021.

Swan left the store prior to the arrival of officers. He was arrested on a warrant on Friday and charged with third-degree criminal trespass (a misdemeanor). Swan is due to appear in Cortlandville town court for this charge on Sept. 6.

Luis A. Cortez

Cortez, 25, of Cortland, was arrested on Saturday (Aug. 26).

The county sheriff’s report stated that Cortez stole merchandise from the Walmart store in Cortlandville while in the presence of a child. Cortez was also in possession of an illegal weapon, the report noted.

Cortez was charged with petit larceny, fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon and endangering the welfare of a child (a misdemeanor).

Cortez was processed, arraigned and released. He is due to appear in Cortlandville town court on Sept. 6.

Timothy M. Hartwick

Hartwick, 36 and listed as homeless, was arrested during the early-morning hours of Friday (Aug. 25).

The county sheriff’s office report stated that Hartwick stole merchandise from the Walmart store in Cortlandville back on July 28. 

Hartwick was arrested on a warrant and charged with petit larceny (a Class-B Misdemeanor) and sixth-degree conspiracy (a Class-B Misdemeanor). He is due to appear in court at a later date.

Logan R. Vandeuson

Vandeuson, 24, of Cortland, was arrested on Thursday night (Aug. 24).

The county sheriff’s office report stated that officers responded to a domestic disturbance call in Cortlandville. According to the report, Vandeuson tampered with a known victim’s vehicle before fleeing the scene.

Vandeuson was located later in the evening, arrested and charged with third-degree criminal tampering (a misdemeanor). He was arraigned, released and now scheduled to appear in Cortlandville town court at a later date.

Mark A. Parkin

Parkin, 57, of the village of McGraw, was arrested on Friday (Aug. 25).

The county sheriff’s office report stated that Parkin was involved in a car accident that included property damage on Carr Hill Road in Cortlandville. According to the report, Parkin was driving while intoxicated and drove off the roadway.

Parkin was charged with DWI (a misdemeanor) and multiple infractions, including consumption of alcohol in a motor vehicle, speed not reasonable and prudent and refusal of a breath test.

Parkin was arraigned, released and now due to appear in Cortlandville town court on Sept. 6.

Lori A. Maricle

Maricle, 29, of Cortland, was arrested on Thursday (Aug. 24).

The county sheriff’s office report stated that Maricle had been calling the McDonald’s restaurant in Cortlandville and harassing an employee.

Maricle was charged with second-degree harassment (a Class-A Misdemeanor) and fourth-degree stalking (a Class-B Misdemeanor). He was arraigned, released and is now due to appear in Cortlandville town court at a later date.
