The fourth annual Charity on Church Street Wiffleball Tournament was held over the weekend.
The community fundraising event, which is a wiffleball tournament with unique rules, has been taking place in the backyard of Jeremy Milligan’s house on Church Street since 2018. The tournament attracts between 14-16 teams per year.
“(The tournament) has gotten so big it ends up raising five digits annually,” Milligan said in the past. Background on the tournament can be viewed by clicking here.
This year’s event raised funds for The Public Schools of Hawaii Foundation, which will be earmarked for a school that burned down in the recent Hawaii wildfires. Over $1,000 will go towards the effort.
Team Johnson – which includes Abe Johnson, Ethan Johnson and Owen Johnson – won the tournament for the second year in a row.
Other award winners include:
- Rookie of the Year – Josiah Craig
- Cy Young – Tristan Milligan
- Gold Gloves – Isaiah Prior, Kielin Irvine and Jaxon Clark
- Home Run Champ – Owen Coon
- MVP – Ethan Johnson
About 100 people stop by the tournament every year to donate, enjoy some food and drink, and watch some backyard wiffleball. The tournament has previously raised for Cortland and Homer Little Leagues, The East Coast Pet Adoptions and a memorial award to a local family who lost a loved one.
