Construction work this week in the city of Cortland will result in an intersection closing in the downtown area.

According to Crown City Rising, Crews on Tuesday (Sept. 5) will begin installing the main storm sewer collection basins at the intersection of Main Street, Court Street and West Court Street.

The work will require “substantial excavation,” according to the update, which will result in the intersection being closed. The closure will also take place overnight.

The update continued by saying that Main Street will be closed at Central Avenue, with traffic detoured down Central Avenue and Orchard Streets. Court Street will be closed to thru traffic, while West Court Street traffic will be detoured onto Haskell Place and Monroe Heights.

Work at the downtown-area intersection is expected to be completed by Thursday (Sept. 7). Any delays in the work will require closure of the intersection to extend to Friday (Sept. 8).

Projects on Main Street is the city’s continuation of its Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI) projects. Cortland started working on projects last year.
