Cortland County High School Sports Recaps (September 6th)

Here are some local high school varsity sports recaps from Wednesday’s events:

Varsity Field Hockey: Homer vs. Weedsport

The Homer Lady Trojans fell to an overall record of 0-3 after losing to Weedsport in overtime with a score of 1-2. 

Homer’s only goal of the game was scored by Molly McMasters

Weedsport was led by Kayla Flask (1 goal) and Keegan McNabb (1 goal). 

Homer will look to get their first win of the regular season as they play a county rivalry game against Cortland at Cortland high school this Friday (September 8th) at 6:30pm. 

Varsity Golf: Homer vs. Cortland

The Cortland County rivalry matchup between the Homer Trojans and the Cortland Purple Tigers ended up with Homer winning with a close overall team score of 227-237 on Wednesday. (Reminder: Lowest score in golf wins).

Up next, Homer will play against Christian Brothers Academy at Drumlins Golf course in Syracuse on Monday (September 11th). An official time for the match is yet to be announced. 

Cortland on the other hand will play Mexico at the Willowbrook Golf Club in Cortland today (September 7th) at 3:30pm. 

Varsity Boys Soccer: Cortland vs. Chittenango

The Cortland Purple Tigers lost 1-5 against Chittenango at home Wednesday night. With this result, Cortland now holds a 0-2 record. 

Cortland’s only goal was scored by Caden Albright in the second half. 

Chittenango’s goals were scored by Gavin Karwoski (3 goals) and Jake Wagner (2 goals). 

Cortland goalkeeper Liam Burns made 8 saves in the game, while Logan Bronner also recorded 8 saves for Chittenango. 

Cortland is now scheduled to play in the “DeRuyter Boys Booster Club Blast Off Tournament” at DeRuyter high school this Friday (September 8th) at 3pm. 

Varsity Boys Soccer: Cincinnatus vs. Otselic Valley

The Cincinnatus Lions defeated Otselic Valley with a score of 5-1 Wednesday evening.

This was Cincinnatus’ first game of the regular season.

Cincinantus’ next game will be played against Mater Dei Academy at the Cincinnatus Fireman’s Field on Friday (September 8th) at 4:30pm. 

Varsity Cross Country: Cincinnatus vs. Multiple Teams (Scrimmage)

The Cincinnatus Lions competed in a scrimmage meet at Tully high school against 10 other teams Wednesday evening. 

Here are the individual results from both Cincinantus’ boys and girls teams:

  • Connor Johnson finished in 27th place (Time - 21:58.0)
