A sergeant and an officer from the Cortland County Sheriff’s Department were assigned to a school district within the county.
Sergeant Mark Starner and officer Mercedes Slade were assigned as school resource officers (SROs) to the Marathon Central School District (MCSD).
Starner will be assigned to Appleby Elementary School, while Slade will be at Marathon High School. MCSD started school this week.
