Cortland County High School Sports Recaps (September 7th)

Here are some local high school varsity sports recaps from Thursday’s events:

Varsity Golf: Cortland vs. Mexico

The Cortland Purple Tigers defeated Mexico with a final team score of 239-246 on Thursday at the Willowbrook Golf Club in Cortland. (Reminder: lowest score in golf wins).

Varsity Golf: McGraw vs. Cazenovia

The McGraw Eagles played a total of five out of nine holes against Cazenovia at the Knickerbocker Country Club before the game was called due to weather conditions Thursday evening. 

According to McGraw head coach Joe Seamans, the five holes completed were enough for an official match. 

McGraw lost the match with a team score of 160-122. (Reminder: lowest score in golf wins).

Varsity Girls Soccer: Cincinnatus vs. Cortland (DeRuyter Girls Booster Blast Off Tournament)

The Cincinnatus Lady Lions defeated the Cortland Lady Tigers in the first round of the “DeRuyter Girls Booster Blast Off Tournament” Thursday evening. 

Cincinnatus won the game with a score of 1-0. 

The only goal of the game was scored by Cincinnatus’ Ava Larrabee (assisted by Mandi Waltz). 

Cincinnatus goalie Sidney Glover recorded a total of 3 saves in the game, while Cortland goalie Lauren Mott made 12 saves. 

Up next, Cincinnatus is scheduled to play Otselic Valley for a regular season game on the road today (September 8th) at 4:30pm. 

Cincinnatus will play in the championship game of the “DeRuyter Girls Booster Blast Off Tournament” on Saturday (September 9th) at DeRuyter high school. Cincinnatus will play the winner between DeRuyter and Sackets Harbor. The start time of the game is yet to be announced. 

DeRuyter will play Sackets Harbor at 5pm today (September 8th) at DeRuyter high school. 

Cortland will play in the consolation game of the tournament against the losing team between DeRuyter and Sackets Harbor at DeRuyter high school on Saturday (September 9th) at 10am.
