Tickets are on sale for the fourth annual Chefs Take a Stand Against Domestic Violence.
The event will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 3 from 6 to 8 p.m. at The Lookout at Hope Lake on 2245 Clute Road in Cortland County.
Jessica Smith, program director of YWCA Cortland’s Aid to Victims of Violence, said the Oct. 3 event helps raise funds for victims of domestic violence in the local community.
“It (the event) helps us to raise funds for our program to cover things that grants don’t cover,” Smith said that a few things the funds from the event supports include haircuts, clothing and more. “Sometimes, victims have to leave with just the clothes on their backs, so we really have to supply them with everything until they can get back on their feet.”
Smith called the event a “24-course meal,” as close to 25 local community leaders create delicious dishes of their choice.
“This turns into a competition between all of the chefs,” Smith said. “They really get into it.”
Chefs will compete for best appetizer, best entree, best dessert and other awards. The winner will also receive a purple apron.
The event will include wine tasting from the Thirsty Owl Wine Company, beer tasting from Homer Hops, music from the Tribal Revival band and more.

“It’s a really fun event and a good place for the community to come together and help support the work we do,” Smith said.
Smith said the event is an opportunity to show individuals in the community that are “fleeing situations” like the ones they’re in.
“They have support from their community as well, so they don’t have to feel alone,” Smith said. “We’re not the only ones supporting them. They have other people encouraging them and making them feel like people are behind them as they go through this terrible time, restart their lives, figure things out and heal from a traumatizing situation.”
Tickets for the fourth annual Chefs Take a Stand Against Domestic Violence are available for purchase online today at 10 a.m. Tickets will also be available for purchase at the YWCA Cortland’s front desk on Tuesday (Sept. 5).
