Homer officials approved the purchase of golf carts at its village board of trustees meeting on Tuesday.

The two-seated, regular model used golf carts will cost $3,000 apiece, said village mayor Hal McCabe. The purchase of two golf carts will be made from the Walden Oaks Country Club in Munsons Corners, according to Homer fire chief Jay Riley.

The Homer fire department will have primary ownership of the golf carts. They will also be available for other village departments on an as-needed basis.

The golf carts, which are over 10 years old but in good shape, will mainly be used for emergency medical services, Riley said. The golf carts could also be used to help individuals get to and from an event in the village, including people who park in handicapped lots.

Riley mentioned that seat inserts will be installed for people to sit in the back of the golf cart.

“I think these would be a great asset to help with emergency services,” village deputy mayor Pat Clune said.
