County Sheriff: Cortland woman steals thousands in welfare benefits

A Cortland woman is facing charges of welfare fraud, according to a report.

The Cortland County Sheriff’s Office report stated that following an investigation that included the Cortland County Department of Social Services, it was discovered that Crissy L. Greene, 30, allegedly received $2,000 in benefits “she was not entitled to.”

According to the report, Greene allegedly provided “fraudulent information” to the county social services department in terms of household composition.

Greene was arrested on Thursday (Sept. 21) and charged with two counts of first-degree offering a false instrument of filing, and fourth-degree welfare fraud and grand larceny (all Class-E Felonies).

Greene was issued an appearance ticket. She is due to appear in Cortland city court on Oct. 16.
