Here are some local high school varsity sports recaps from Saturday’s events:

Varsity Boys Soccer: Cortland vs. Cazenovia

The Cortland boys soccer team lost 1-3 against Cazenovia, making them fall to an overall record of 5-4. 

Cortland was led by Caden Albright (1 goal) and Liam Burns (8 saves). 

Cazenovia was led by Alex Dolly (1 goal & 2 assists), Eliot Comeau (1 goal & 1 assist), Nat Gale (1 goal), and Jack Casey (2 saves). 

Cortland’s next game will be played against Christian Brothers Academy on the road today (Monday, September 25th) at 7pm. 

Varsity Boys Soccer: Cincinnatus vs. McGraw

The Cincinnatus Lions defeated McGraw at their annual rivalry game at SUNY Cortland on Saturday with a score of 3-1. 

With this result, Cincinnatus improved to a 7-2-1 record, while McGraw fell to a record of 4-3-1. 

Cincinnatus was led by Caleb Souva (1 goal & 2 assists), John Schuyler (1 goal & 1 assist), and Jack Stafford (1 goal). 

McGraw’s only goal of the game was scored by Jaydon Bassett. 

Up next, Cincinnatus is scheduled to play on the road against Otselic Valley on Tuesday (September 26th) at 4:30pm; while McGraw will play today (Monday, September 25th) on the road against DeRuyter at 4:30pm. 

Varsity Girls Soccer: Cortland vs. Christian Brothers Academy (CBA)

The Cortland Lady Tigers fell to an overall record of 3-6 after losing to Christian Brothers Academy (CBA) with a score of 1-5 on Saturday. 

Cortland was led by Zoe Timmerman (1 goal), Lauren Mott (10 saves), and Danica Peck (4 saves). 

CBA was led by Francesca Canzano (2 goals), Katherine Williamson (2 goals), Lauren Zollo (1 goal), Nevaeh Bacheyie (1 assist), Margaret Melvin (1 assist), Ciara Duggan (1 assist), Allison Boule (1 assist), and Madisyn Crysler (3 saves). 

Cortland’s next game will be played at home against Marathon today (Monday, September 25th) at 7pm. 

Varsity Girls Soccer: Cincinnatus vs. McGraw

The Cincinnatus Lady Lions dominated McGraw at their annual rivalry game at SUNY Cortland Saturday night with a score of 12-0. 

With this result, Cincinnatus improved their unbeaten record to 9-0; while McGraw fell to 3-6. 

Cincinnatus’ goals were scored by Cassia Schuyler (4 goals), Ava Larrabee (3 goals), Payton Landers (1 goal), Isabella Cosimo (1 goal), Peyton Stith (1 goal), Jocelyn Turshman (1 goal), and Neveah Billings (1 goal). 

McGraw goalkeeper Heather Magee made 8 saves in the game. 

Up next, Cincinnatus will play Whitney Point on Wednesday (September 27th) on the road at 4:30pm; while McGraw hosts Madison today (Monday, September 25th) at 4:30pm. 

Varsity Girls Soccer: Homer vs. Moravia

The Homer Lady Trojans won 7-0 against Moravia on Saturday in order to improve to a 3-5 overall record. 

Homer was led by Reese Evangelista (2 goals), Kennadie Taylor (2 goals & 2 saves), Alisa Gonzalez (1 goal & 1 assist), Reese Kline (1 goal & 1 assist), Mikayla Smith (1 goal), Bella Cicioni (1 assist), Harper Sinclair (1 assist), and Alex Kellaway (2 saves).

Homer’s next game will be played on the road against Mexico tonight (Monday, September 25th) at 5:30pm. 

Varsity Field Hockey: Homer vs. East Syracuse Minoa (ESM)

The Homer field hockey team improved to a 4-5 record overall after winning 1-0 against East Syracuse Minoa at home on Saturday. 

The only goal of the game was scored by Homer sophomore Mallory Kline.

Homer goalie Aislynn Cobb made 3 saves in the game. 

Homer is now scheduled to host Morrisville-Eaton at Homer high school this Tuesday (September 26th) at 5:30pm. 

Varsity Cross Country: Cortland vs. Multiple Teams (Large Schools Baldwinsville Invitational)

The Cortland Purple Tigers competed in the Large Schools Baldwinsville Invitational on Saturday. Each race was 5,000 meters long. 

A total of 138 runners competed in the boys’ race, while 116 runners competed in the girls’ race. 

Here are some highlights from both Cortland boys’ and girls’ teams:

  • Christian Vanpatten finished in 108th place overall (Time - 21:12.0)
  • Feodor Kalytyuk came in 111th place overall (Time - 21:27.6)
  • Thomas Barnes placed 112th overall (Time - 21:41.1)
  • Avery Canzano came in 114th place overall (Time - 21:57.7)
  • Dylan Slater finished in 118th place overall (Time - 22:49.2)
  • Blayke Austen-Hynes placed 121st overall (Time - 23:01.8)
  • Ethan Wakula placed 127th overall (Time - 24:14.8)
  • Owen Coon came in 134th place overall (Time - 27:02.1)
  • Adam Lemon placed 135th overall (Time - 27:25.1)

Cortland Girls

  • Ruby Mullally finished in 84th place overall (Time - 24:47.3)
  • Alexis Brown placed 106th overall (Time - 27:16.0)

Varsity Cross Country: Homer vs. Multiple Teams (Small Schools Baldwinsville Invitational)

The Homer Trojans competed in the Small Schools Baldwinsville Invitational on Saturday. Each race was 5,000 meters long. 

A total of 288 runners competed in the boys’ race, and 204 runners competed in the girls’ race.

  • Damian Brown placed 45th overall (Time - 18:35.8)
  • Christopher Boylan placed 87th overall (Time - 19:26.4)
  • Aaron O'Brien came in 155th place overall (Time - 21:07.6)
  • Liam O'Brien finished in 171st place overall (Time - 21:20.0)
  • Ethan Maslin placed 174th overall (Time - 21:21.4)
  • Michael Thalheimer placed 249th overall (Time - 24:37.5)

Homer Girls

  • Ingrid Aagaard finished in 9th place overall (Time - 20:03.6)
  • Anna Aldrich came in 38th place overall (Time - 22:44.4)
  • Maggie Mahunik placed 79th overall (Time - 24:33.2)
  • Alyssa Swayze came in 82nd place overall (Time - 24:40.3)

Varsity Cross Country: Marathon vs. Multiple Teams (Owego Invitational)

The Marathon Olympians competed in the Owego Invitational on Saturday. Each race was 5,000 meters long. 

A total of 150 runners competed in the boys’ race, while a total of 157 runners competed in the girls’ race. 

Here are some highlights from both Marathon boys’ and girls’ teams:

Marathon Boys

  • Andrew Edsall finished in 4th place overall (Time - 17:09.7)
  • Zachary Birdsall placed 36th overall (Time - 18:18.2)

Marathon Girls

  • Abigail Trabucco finished 35th place overall (Time - 22:28.6)
  • Larina Cochran placed 91st overall (Time - 25:53.8)
  • Hannah Prestigiacomo placed 102nd overall (Time - 26:53.2)
