Cortland County High School Sports Recaps (September 25th)

Here are some local high school varsity sports recaps from Monday’s events:

Varsity Boys Soccer: McGraw vs. DeRuyter

The McGraw Eagles improved their overall record to 5-3-1 after beating DeRyuter with a final score of 3-0. 

McGraw was led by Logan Moffitt (2 goals & 1 assist), Ryan Parks (1 goal), Blair Mulcahy (1 assist), and Noah Heath (8 saves). 

DeRuyter goalkeeper Wesley Pforter made 12 saves in the game. 

According to the McGraw athletics website, the Eagles are now scheduled to host DeRuyter at the Elm St Soccer Field in McGraw this Friday (September 29th) at 4:30pm. 

Varsity Boys Soccer: Cortland vs. Christian Brothers Academy (CBA)

The Cortland Purple Tigers lost 0-4 against Christian Brothers Academy (CBA) on the road Monday evening. With this loss, Cortland has fallen to an overall record of 5-5. 

Cortland goalkeeper Liam Burns recorded a total of 16 saves in the game. 

CBA was led by Connor Morgia (3 goals), Rico Petrosillo (1 goal), Caleb Buddie (1 assist), Greyson Taetsch (1 assist), Joseph Ascenzo (1 assist), Gaetano Nasci (1 assist), Ryan Petrie (4 saves), and Billy Assaf (4 saves). 

Cortland’s next game will be played on the road against Chottenango this Wednesday (September 27th) at 7pm. 

Varsity Boys Soccer: Marathon vs. Whitney Point

The Marathon Olympians dominated Whitney Point after winning on the road with a score of 9-0 Monday evening. With this result, Marathon improved to an 8-1 record. 

Marathon was led by Bryce Hartman (4 goals), Jacob Byron (1 goal), Colton Oram (1 goal & 1 assist), Camdyn Kashuba (1 goal & 2 assists), Aydan Brown (1 goal & 1 assist), Brittan Keller (1 assist), Austin Poth (1 goal), and Colton Howe (2 assists). 

The Olympians will look to keep improving their record as they play Groton on the road today (Tuesday, September 26th) at 4:30pm. 

Varsity Girls Soccer: Cortland vs. Marathon

The Cortland Lady Tigers won a tight game against Marathon with a score of 1-0 at Cortland high school Monday night under the lights.

Cortland’s next game will be played on the road against Chittenango this Wednesday (September 27th) at 5pm; while Marathon hosts Union Springs today (Tuesday, September 26th) at Marathon high school at 4:30pm. 

Varsity Girls Soccer: Homer vs. Mexico

The Homer Lady Trojans tied 0-0 against Mexico. With this result, Homer now holds a 3-5-1 overall record. 

Homer goalie Alex Kellaway recorded 13 saves in the game, while Caprice Cuituli made 2 saves for Mexico. 

The Lady Trojans are now scheduled to play against Westhill at Westhill high school on Wednesday (September 27th) at 7pm. 

Varsity Golf: Cortland vs. Homer

​​The second Cortland county rivalry matchup of the season between the Homer Trojans and the Cortland Purple Tigers ended up with Homer winning with a tight team score of 234-242 on Monday. (Reminder: Lowest score in golf wins).

Up next, Homer will host Chittenango at the Cortland Country Club on Wednesday (September 27th) at 3:30pm; while Cortland is scheduled to host Westhill at the Willowbrook Golf Club in Cortland today (Tuesday, September 26th) at 3:30pm. 

Varsity Girls Volleyball: Cortland vs. Solvay

After losing a close first set, the Cortland Lady Tigers came back to win three straight sets to beat Solvay on the road Monday night. With this result, Cortland improved to a 5-3 record. 

Cortland was led by Katie Harris (9 digs, 13 assists & 4 aces), Natalee Kressler (8 digs, 1 assist & 1 ace), Rileigh Madden (4 kills & 8 digs), and Lizzy West (4 kills & 12 blocks). 

Solvay was led by Ciara Togni (3 kills, 13 digs & 1 ace) and Gianna D'Eredita (1 kill, 13 digs, 2 assists & 6 aces). 

Up next, Cortland will play at home against Cazenovia today (Tuesday, September 26th) at 6:30pm. 

Varsity Girls Tennis: Homer vs. Skaneateles

The Homer Lady Trojans lost to Skaneateles with a team score of 5-2 Monday evening.
