Two individuals charged for cocaine possession (County Drug Task Force)

Two individuals were charged earlier this week for cocaine possession, according to a report.

The Cortland County Drug Task Force report stated that during a narcotics investigation, Cortland police officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for multiple infractions.

Tammy M. Smith, 49 of Marathon, the driver of the vehicle, was in possession of a small amount of methamphetamine, the report noted.

The report continued by saying that Amber L. Harris, 35 of Cortland, the passenger of the vehicle, was in possession of over a half-ounce of crack-cocaine, morphine and oxycodone pills, a digital scale, packaging material and an undisclosed amount of money.

According to the report, the street value of the cocaine was over $1,400.

Smith and Harris were arrested on Monday (Sept. 25). Harris was charged with third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance (a Class-B Felony), two counts of seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance (a Class-A Misdemeanor) and two counts of criminally using drug paraphernalia (a Class-A Misdemeanor).

Smith was charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a Class-A Misdemeanor.

Harris and Smith were both processed at the county sheriff’s office. Smith was released on an appearance ticket, while Harris was arraigned in city court and sent to county jail without bail.

The report stated that the investigation is ongoing and that further charges are possible.
