Multiple projects are currently underway today (Friday, Sept. 29) in the downtown area of Cortland.

According to Crown City Rising, work is being done to relocate a gas main, which will allow for the installation of storm sewer infrastructure at the intersection of Main Street and West Court Street.

Crews from NYSEG are actively working on moving the gas line, while CCI crews are installing and connecting new storm sewers.

The construction update anticipates these projects, weather permitting, will be completed by the end of Friday. During this work, drivers are recommended to use Haskell Place to Orchard Street or Monroe Heights as detours.

The lower portion of Orchard Street continues to be closed, and the east entrance to the Groton Avenue parking lot is closed due to the ongoing public improvement project. Groton Avenue between Main Street and Monroe Heights is for local traffic only.

As a reminder, drivers are encouraged to use detours and be alert of ongoing temporary road closures.

The various projects on Main Street are the city’s continuation of its Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI). Cortland started working on projects last year.
