The Cortland Purple Tigers pulled off a second half comeback in order to defeat LaFayette 2-1 at Cortland junior-senior high school Saturday morning.

Cortland had a rough start, as they conceded a goal about 2-minutes into the game when LaFayette’s Franki Lopez scored a volley off a free kick from Ben Ryan.

After being down 0-1 at halftime, Cortland came back in the second half to take control of the game.

Cortland head coach Luke Schweider spoke on his team’s will to win by saying, “at halftime, all we said was 'we’re winning this game’”.

With just over 11 minutes left in the game, Cortland freshman Cal Albright scored a screamer from outside the box off an assist from sophomore Sawyer Bowman to make it 1-1.

Quickly after that, junior Caden Albright scored the game winner with an assist from Cal Albright to ultimately win the game.

When asked what specifically changed in the second half, Schweider said “they (Cortland players) worked for it. They earned it”. Coach Schweider also said that their new mentality is to be “relentless.”.

“In the second half, we showed more intensity, and had more energy and things started clicking,” added Cal Albright.
