Cortland County High School Sports Recaps (October 4th)

Here are some local high school varsity sports recaps from Wednesday’s events:

Varsity Cross Country: Cortland vs. Westhill

The Cortland Purple Tigers competed against Westhill at Cortland high school Wednesday evening. 

The Cortland boys’ team lost 48-15, and the Cortland girls’ team lost 50-15. (Reminder: lowest score in cross country wins). 

Here are some highlights from both Cortland boys’ and girls’ teams:

Cortland Boys

  • Christian VanPatten finished in 7th place overall (Time - 21:53)
  • Feodor Kalytyuk came in 8th place overall (Time - 22:25)
  • Thomas Barnes placed 10th overall (Time - 22:57)
  • Avery Canzano came in 12th place overall (Time - 23:34)
  • Dylan Slater placed 13th overall (Time - 24:23)

Cortland Girls

  • Ruby Mullally finished in 8th place overall (Time - 27:14)
  • Alexis Brown placed 14th overall (Time - 31:26)

Varsity Cross Country: Homer vs. Chittenango

The Homer Trojans competed against Chittenango at Chittenango high school Wednesday afternoon. 

The Homer boys’ team lost 38-23, and the Homer girls’ team lost 41-20. (Reminder: lowest score in cross country wins). 

Here are some highlights from both Homer boys’ and girls’ teams:

Homer Boys

  • Damian Brown finished 1st place overall (Time 19:32)
  • Christopher Boylan came in 4th place overall (Time - 20:44)
  • Ethan Maslin placed 13th overall (Time - 22:52)
  • Aaron O'Brien placed 16th overall (Time - 24:57)
  • Liam O'Brien came in 17th place overall (Time - 25:22)
  • Michael Thalheirer placed 18th overall (Time - 26:23)
  • Nick Costa finished 19th place overall (Time - 26:31)

Homer Girls

  • Ingrid Aagaard finished 1st place overall (Time - 21:39)
  • Anna Aldrich placed 7th overall (Time - 23:59)
  • Alyssa Swayze came in 10th place overall (Time - 25:35)
  • Margaret Mahunik placed 11th overall (Time - 26:20)
  • Lydia Andre placed 13th overall (Time - 26:46)
  • Ruthalina Caravella finished 14th place overall (Time - 27:03)
  • Angela Yang placed 18th overall (Time - 30:24)
  • Brielle Towers came in 19th place overall (Time - 32:58)
  • Brynn Loomis placed 20th overall (Time - 33:53) 

Varsity Girls Soccer: Cincinnatus vs. Stockbridge Valley

The Cincinnatus Lady Lions defeated Stockbridge Valley with a score of 8-1 Wednesday evening. With this result, Cincinnatus improved their unbeaten record to 13-0-1. 

Cincinnatus was led by Cassia Schuyler (4 goals & 2 assists), Jocelyn Turshman (1 goal & 3 assists), Payton Landers (1 goal & 1 assist), Ava Larrabee (1 goal), Mandi Waltz (1 goal), and Sidney Glover (3 saves). 

Stockbridge Valley was led by Siena Marzan (1 goal) and Abby Jacobs (17 saves). 

Cincinnatus’ next game is scheduled to be played against county rival McGraw at McGraw’s Bennett St Field on Saturday (October 7th) at 10am. 

Varsity Field Hockey: Marathon vs. Vestal

The Marathon Lady Olympians lost 0-2 against Vestal Wednesday evening, making them fall to an overall record of 9-3. 

Vestal’s goals were scored by Haley Carey (1 goal) and Helene Ryan (1 goal).

Marathon will look to bounce back as they play on the road against Spencer Van Etten Central on Friday (October 6th) at 4:30pm.
