The Cortland Purple Tigers had a successful senior night against county rival Homer Thursday night. Cortland won the game with a score of 3-0.
Cortland’s four seniors (Michael Dearie, Spenser Dodds, Stellan Seward, & Robert Temple) were celebrated at the game.
“We showed up and put things together,” said Cortland head coach Luke Schweider. “We had opportunities (at goal). There could've been more than three (goals scored), but I am happy with the possession I saw.”
“The first half we did a good job holding and possessing the ball,” added Cortland junior Daniel Dubetsky. “We knew the game plan coming in. Coach (Luke Schweider) did a great job planning out the game against a tough team like Homer.”
The Purple Tigers ended up taking a 2-0 lead at halftime with goals from junior Jamir Bell (1 goal) and senior Stellan Seward. Both goals were assisted by Daniel Dubetsky.
Seward’s goal was his first of the season.
When asked about how he felt about scoring his first season goal on senior night, Seward said, “(having my) first goal this year on senior night was amazing. I wasn’t able to practice recently because of my leg (injury), but I really wanted to play tonight.”
Cortland ended up extending their lead in the second half with a goal from sophomore Sawyer Bowman (assisted by Caden Albright) to make it 3-0.
