Marathon clinches division following senior night double-overtime win vs. Southern Cayuga (photos included)

The Marathon Lady Olympians clinched the IAC North Small School Division after defeating Southern Cayuga in a double-overtime thriller 1-0 Thursday evening. 

Not only did the Lady Olympians clinch the division, but they also celebrated a successful senior night. 

A total of six seniors (Marissa Allen, Anna Hoyt, Abigail Ensign, Megan Howard, Kendre Euson, and Brenna VanDee) were celebrated in Thursday’s game.

It was a close game, with both teams having chances to score. Marathon ended the game with 18 shots and 2 corner kicks, while Southern Cayuga recorded 14 shots and 1 corner kick. 

The only goal of the game was scored by senior Anna Hoyt with about 8 minutes left in the second overtime period. Fellow senior Abigail Ensign assisted Hoyt in the winning goal.

This was Marathon’s last game of the regular season, helping them improve to an overall record of 9-5-1. 

Marathon is now scheduled to play in the IAC Small School Championship on Saturday (October 14th). The game will be played at Tompkins Cortland Community College at 6pm.
