A town of Virgil man was arrested earlier this week after he shot a firearm “in close proximity” of a residence, according to a report.

The Cortland County Sheriff’s Office report stated that officers dispatched to a residence on Webb Road in the town of Virgil to investigate a complaint of shots fired in the area.

According to the report, Derek J. Fiene, 49, “unlawfully possessed” an undisclosed firearm and “shot in close proximity” of a residence.

Fiene was arrested on Wednesday and charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon (a Class-A Misdemeanor) and discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling (a misdemeanor).

Fiene is due to appear in court at a later date.
