Low pressure will vacate the region today, but there will be no dominating high pressure to take its place.

This will result in light northwest winds remaining in place in the wake of the departing low pressure system.

The northwest winds coming over Lake Ontario will produce a fair bit of cloud cover and a few lingering stray showers or drizzly periods.

Some breaks of sunshine are also possible though, especially as it gets later and later into the afternoon. Skies may even turn partly cloudy for a time before clouds increase again tonight.

Wind speeds will only be around 5 mph with top gusts around 15 mph.

The decreasing wind speeds, departing low, and breaks of sunshine will all help temperatures nudge upward a few degrees. Highs this afternoon should mostly be in the mid 50s with just a few hilltops sticking to the low 50s.

Tonight, temperatures will drop to the mid 40s. Overnight lows should bottom out around 40 degrees.

Here is a look at the weather for the next few days:

Wednesday: Mostly cloudy. Morning lows near 40. Afternoon highs in the upper 50s.

Thursday: Thin overcast with some filtered sunshine. Morning lows in the low 40s. Afternoon highs in the low 60s.

Friday: Scattered showers. Morning lows in the upper 40s. Afternoon highs in the upper 50s.

Saturday: Rain, or at least some showers. Morning lows in the upper 40s. Afternoon highs in the mid 50s.
