Cortland County High School Sports Recaps (October 14th)

Here are some local high school varsity sports recaps from Saturday’s events:

Varsity Girls Soccer: Marathon vs. Watkins Glen (IAC Championship)

The Marathon Lady Olympians lost 2-3 against Watkins Glen in the IAC Championship game at Tompkins Cortland Community College on Saturday. 

Marathon was led by Addison Oram (1 goal), Abigail Ensign (1 goal), Marissa Allen (1 assist).

All three of Watkin Glen’s goals were scored by junior Skye Honratch.

Marathon will look forward to playing in the first round of their respective sectional tournament.

Varsity Girls Soccer: Homer vs. Marcellus

The Homer Lady Trojans lost 0-2 against Marcellus in their last regular season game. With this loss, Homer has fallen to a 5-9-2 record. 

Homer goalkeeper Alex Kellaway recorded 14 saves in the game. 

Marcellus was led by Janie Powell (1 goal) and Alie Kaup (1 goal). 

Homer’s next game will be in the first round of the Section III Class A sectional tournament.

Varsity Field Hockey: Cortland vs. East Syracuse Minoa (ESM)

The Cortland Lady Tigers ended their season with an overall record of 0-14 after losing to ESM with a score of 0-3. 

ESM was led by Addison Shepard (1 goal & 2 assists), Mariska Gal (1 goal & 1 assist), and Julia Brown (1 goal).

Cortland goalie Abby Clay made 8 saves in the game. 

This was Cortland’s last game of the season. 

Varsity Boys Soccer: Homer vs. Phoenix

The Homer Trojans lost 1-3 against Phoenix, making them fall to an overall record of 3-11. 

Homer was led by Antelmo Perez (1 goal), Tristyn Henkel (1 assist), Levi Guay (5 saves), and Oliver Kida (4 saves). 

Phoenix was led by Owen Champion (2 goals & 1 assist), Mason Renfrew (1 goal), Cody Hagar (1 assist), Tyler D'Arcy (1 assist), and Kai Clary (4 saves). 

This was Homer’s last game of the season. 

Varsity Cross Country: Marathon, Cortland, Homer & Cincinnatus vs. Multiple Teams (Marathon Invitational)

Multiple Cortland County teams (Marathon, Cortland, Homer, and Cincinnatus) participated in the Marathon Invitational on Saturday. 

Here are the results and highlights of all Cortland county boys’ and girls’ teams:

Boys

Marathon

The Marathon Olympians placed 19th as a team.

  • Andrew Edsall finished in 10th place overall (Time - 17:51)
  • Zachary Birdsall placed 46th overall (Time - 19:27)
  • Blake Birdsall came in 95th place overall (Time - 20:45)
  • Abdou Romdhani placed 166th overall (Time - 24:50)
  • Zander Potts placed 174th overall (Time - 29:20)

Cortland

The Cortland Purple Tigers placed 25th as a team.

  • Christian VanPatte placed 84th overall (Time - 20:24)
  • Feodor Kalytyuk came in 108th place overall (Time - 21:03)
  • Thomas Barnes finished in 132th place overall (Time - 21:41)
  • Avery Canzano placed 134th overall (Time - 21:56)
  • Dylan Slater placed 142th overall (Time - 22:29)

Homer

The Homer Trojans placed 23rd as a team.

  • Damian Brown finished in 35th place overall (Time -19:10)
  • Christopher Boylan placed 104th overall (Time - 20:54)
  • Ethan Maslin placed 130th overall (Time - 21:38)
  • Aaron O'Brien came in 145th place overall (Time - 22:44)
  • Liam O'Brien placed 155th overall (Time - 23:25)

Cincinnatus

The Cincinnatus Lions placed 27th as a team.

  • Connor Johnson placed 116th overall (Time - 21:17)
  • Dominic Crandall came in 152th place overall (Time - 23:17)
  • Eric Peterson placed 162th overall (Time - 24:15)

Girls

Marathon

The Marathon Lady Olympians did not place as a team, since they did not have a full team. 

  • Abigail Trabucco placed 27th overall (Time - 22:46.2)

Homer

The Homer Lady Trojans placed 8th overall as a team. 

  • Ingrid Aagaard finished in 5th place overall (Time - 20:44)
  • Anna Aldrich placed 37th overall (Time - 23:57)
  • Maggie Mahunik came in 56th place overall (Time - 25:26)
  • Alyssa Swayze placed 57th overall (Time - 25:28)
